An unprecedented Cyber Attack (Ransomware) has affected more than 2 Lakh users in 150 countries on Friday including US, Britain, Russia amongst the most affected and has also affected computers in India. The initial attack, known as “WannaCry”, paralyzed computers that run Britain’s hospital network, Germany’s national railway and scores of other companies and government agencies worldwide in what was believed to be the biggest online extortion scheme ever recorded. The intensity of attack is likely to increase in coming week.
“The ransomware attack was particularly malicious, because if just one person in an organization clicked on an infected attachment or bad link, all the computers in a network would be infected”, said Vikram Thakur, technical director of Symantec Security Response.
Users are hereby informed that these are all ransomwares, and are advised strictly not to open any   such email or attachment from/in  any domain like bhel.in,gmail,yahoo,Hotmail etc.

CDT is taking strong measures to prevent the entry of all such emails but as a precaution, please
ensure the following:
            Do not open any suspicious e-mail containing attachments like .exe,.zip etc and delete the email immediately if you receive any such mail. (Even from bhel.in domain). Also, contact CDT immediately.
          Email from other domains like Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc should be treated in the same way and any suspicious mail & attachment should be immediately deleted.
    * Take immediate backup of your critical data in CD/DVD/Pen Drive/HDD etc and make it a regular exercise. 
    * Kindly change your e-mail and PC Password.
    * Make sure that antivirus on your PC has been updated.
Note:

Once the data is encrypted, there is no way to recover the data.
